The Fuck Does This Make Money: You + Hope
A question for you.
We’ve got two “the fuck does this make money?” Q+As I’m very excited about coming up. But this week, with that eternal vague cancellation phrae — “family issues” — in full swing, I wanted to try turning this Q&A over to you again.
Specifically with the question:
Tell me a story about money that makes you feel hopeful.
It feels like kind of an incongruous combination, hope and money.
Especially in a world where even when we don’t know how to build hopeful futures, we know it’s unlikely a hopeful future includes capitalism as it is. I’m in the middle of “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants.”
it’s blowing my mind, and in many ways, it’s one of the most hopeful books I’ve read all year.
It has on the surface, nothing to do with money. But when the author, botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer writes about plants, hope, and ecological consciousness she’s also writing about transactions. Reciprocity.
Reimagining what we owe each other.
So, I’m curious: do you have any stories about hope and money?
