Five Minute Speech Coach Episode 2: GAPE
Hello, It's weird out there! I hope you are staying safe. Every billionaire luxury spa that refuses to close has told you that they care about 'their community' during COVID 19 so I'm going to skip the rest. You already know it's weird out there! 5 Minute Speech Coach's next episode is out today: it's all about the method of preparation for any conversation.
It’s called GAPE -- or, Goals, Anchor, Practice, Evaluation.
You can use GAPE to prepare for situation that calls for you to present your ideas effectively. For example, during COVID 19 , you can use GAPE to explain to your boss why "powering through" and coming to work endangers your life, or why your roommate can't invite people from Tinder over right now. Theoretically. Anyway, here's what GAPE stands for:
G stands for Goals -- Your goals. What is the point of this conversation for you? Why does it matter? What are you trying to accomplish? A stands for Anchor. Your anchor is the grounding deep truth that you will come back to over and over again to guide your responses in this conversation. P stands for Practice. Practice is how you’re going to make sure you get more comfortable with using your anchor -- no matter what’s going on in the conversation. E stands for Evaluation. Your evaluation is how you’ll know if you achieved your goals or not, and what to do next. Listen to the Episode Here.
H PS -- a lot of the episodes of 5MSC that haven't been recorded yet focus on breathing, emotion management, and reflection (ie -- all stuff that might come in handy now). If this is something you'd be interested in, let me know, I've been thinking of moving up those episodes if those things would be helpful. Stay safe and take care.
