Notes on Feednet: The Reason You Suck

hi,   Have you ever been on the website TV Tropes? It details basically every major TV story archetype.  (Don't click that link unless you want to lose least 6 hours of your life.)  One trope I think about a lot is "The Reason You Suck" speech. You probably already know what I'm talking about: it's when a character tells another character everything they hate about them, the ultimate kiss off speech. It usually immediately precede a Face Heel Turn, or a major transformation in the kissed off character's values, personality, and perspective.   (And yes, you better believe it's in 10 Things I Hate About You, with a twist -- "and most of all I hate how much I don't hate any of those things.") .   I can think of examples of "The Reason You Suck" speeches from almost every TV story I've watched recently (in case you were wondering, that includes She Ra, The Circle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, DS9, and ).  But when I look at the people in my life who are most important to me, most of them at some point have given me a "The Reason You Suck" speech because... at the time, I kind of needed one.   In real life, "The Reason You Suck" speech is kind of... awkward.  It's hard and uncomfortable to give people feedback, especially on how they're living their lives.  It's even hard when it's related to craft, or making something,   Have you ever made something and known that something was off, but you weren't sure what?   In those moments, someone we trust telling us Why We Suck can truly be a gift.   It's hard to find those people.  So, this week I'm curious -- who do you trust enough to give you a Reason You Suck Speech, and why?
